Sometimes You Don't Need a New Shopify Store. You Just Need a Second Opinion
One of the things I've noticed lately is how many business owners come to me convinced they need to start their Shopify stores all over again. Some of them actually have.
Sometimes they've been building the store themselves. Sometimes they've followed advice from AI or online tutorials. And sometimes they've already paid someone to build a website that just isn't working the way they expected.
By the time we talk, they're frustrated, overwhelmed, and ready to throw the whole thing out.
And my first question is usually pretty simple.
What's actually wrong with it?
Because sometimes the answer isn't nearly as complicated as they think.
Maybe the navigation is confusing. Maybe the homepage isn't doing a good job of introducing the brand. Maybe the product collections need reorganizing, or the mobile layout needs attention.
Those are things we can often fix without starting over.
I've been working with Shopify since 2009, and one of the advantages of that experience is knowing when something needs a major overhaul and when it doesn't.
Not Every Problem Requires a New Website
I think there's a tendency in this industry to recommend a complete redesign whenever a store isn't performing the way someone hoped.
And sometimes that's absolutely the right recommendation.
An outdated theme, significant technical problems, or a store that's outgrown its original design may justify a fresh start.
But I don't believe in recommending a new website simply because it's the most expensive option.
I'd much rather spend some time reviewing what's already there.
Is the theme current and properly supported? Are there unnecessary apps? Is the store easy to navigate? Are the products organized in a way that makes sense to customers?
And perhaps most importantly, what is the business owner actually trying to accomplish?
Sometimes a few hours of consulting can make a tremendous difference.
You Don't Have to Know the Answers
One of the reasons I enjoy working with small business owners is that I understand how much they already have on their plates.
They're managing inventory, customers, shipping, marketing, and about a hundred other things.
They shouldn't have to become Shopify developers, too.
That's where I can help.
We can sit down together, look at what's working, identify what isn't, and put together a practical plan.
Maybe you need a redesign. Maybe you need training. Maybe you need someone to clean up a few things and show you how to manage the rest.
And sometimes you just need someone to tell you that your store is actually in pretty good shape.
Wouldn't that be a nice surprise?
If you're feeling stuck with your Shopify store, don't assume the only solution is to start over.
Before you spend thousands of dollars rebuilding something, let's take a look at what you already have.
I recently had a conversation with a person who had built their Shopify store themselves using a free theme. Instead of putting together a proposal to refresh their design, I spent about 15 minutes walking them through what I initially found needed an immediate fix.
You might be pleasantly surprised by how much we can accomplish without tearing everything apart.
